Kent P. Tierney has practiced law for more than 20 years, representing clients throughout California in Family Law, Real Estate, Civil Litigation, and Business Law matters. He founded Tierney Law Group in 2012 after more than 15 years of practice with several Bay Area litigation firms, where he developed a strong reputation for disciplined advocacy and strategic problem-solving in complex disputes. In recognition of his professional achievement and peer respect, Mr. Tierney was selected to Super Lawyers® for 2026—an honor awarded to a limited number of attorneys statewide based on peer recognition and professional accomplishment.

Mr. Tierney is known for his direct, no-nonsense approach to litigation. Clients consistently value his candid assessments, practical strategy, and ability to cut through issues to focus on the facts that matter most. His practice is grounded in thorough legal analysis, disciplined preparation, and confident courtroom execution. Over the course of his career, Mr. Tierney has handled more than 100 trials, giving him substantial experience navigating high-stakes and contested matters from inception through resolution.

In the area of Family Law, Mr. Tierney represents clients in matters ranging from high-net-worth and complex property divorces to gray divorces, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, domestic partnerships, and the negotiation and drafting of sophisticated marital property agreements. His practice also includes spousal and child support disputes, custody and visitation matters, move-away cases, adoptions, paternity proceedings, and domestic violence cases.

Mr. Tierney also maintains a robust Real Estate and Civil Litigation practice. He has extensive experience handling property and business disputes, including partnership and LLC member conflicts, breach of contract and lease disputes, real property partition actions, quiet title actions, specific performance, lis pendens, boundary and easement disputes, neighbor issues, landlord-tenant matters (residential and commercial), breach of fiduciary duty, and real estate and business fraud claims. He is an approved panel attorney for Real Estate Risk Management (RERM), providing legal counsel to real estate professionals across a wide range of transactional and litigation-related matters.

In addition, Mr. Tierney advises individuals and businesses on civil litigation strategy, contracts, insurance coverage, and risk management, including analyzing insurance policies for defense and indemnity obligations, evaluating underlying claims, and advising clients on risk allocation and exposure management. He works closely with clients to develop efficient, results-driven strategies tailored to both legal and financial realities.

Mr. Tierney earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from California State University, Hayward, and his Juris Doctor, with honors, from San Francisco Law School. He is licensed to practice law in California and is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California.
